Pack 99 Always Has a Good Time |
|
Cubmaster Minute Updated August 2008
Well, it’s finally here — my first year as Cubmaster. I’d been anxious about it since Mike Perkins stuck the badge on my shirt back in June at the Crossover. What was I thinking agreeing to this?
But then I went to Camp Kirby. We showed up with 26 scouts and 23 adults. I was overwhelmed by the turnout. I was surrounded by a great bunch of scouts ready for a good time and almost as many parents just as eager to have fun.
What a great time we all had. The weather cooperated (although we had a couple of thunderstorms that first night that we spent in the pole barn.) I had lots of time to sit down and talk with all of the adults and get feedback from them regarding where Pack 99 has been very successful and areas that we can improve.
After being surrounded by nearly a third of the Pack for four days, I realized that I’m not going to be the reason whether Pack 99 continues to be successful or not. Pack 99 is successful because of the group of scouts, leaders, and parents that are involved and each of them is just as important as the other.
So, I’ve decided to not take myself too seriously and have fun with this new responsibility. My idea of fun may not be the same as the next person’s but I’ll make sure that the scouts have fun along with me.
I will be trying some new things this year. I will be asking the den leaders and the parents to be patient to try these things with me. Some ideas may work, some may not but at least we will give it a try. This year will be a learning experience for me as I settle in to my new role but hopefully we’ll all have a great time along the way.
